True Freedom
“True freedom is being without anxiety about imperfection.” ( Zen master Seng-tsan)
As a normal part of our human existence, and everything we experience in life, every one of us is imperfect. It is normal, but how much energy do we put into working towards our concept of perfection? Being the perfect leader, person, son, daughter, mother, father.
Working towards being perfect, and disliking, or even despising the fact that we are not, creates an anxiety that takes a lot of energy and time.
To be truly at ease with ourselves and the world around us, we must first accept that we are not perfect, and more importantly, that it is okay to not be perfect. We can then ‘be’ rather than ‘do’.
When we learn to be at ease with ourself and our imperfections, we can be more at ease with others and have compassion and empathy for their imperfections. We could all do with less anxiety in our lives couldn’t we?
